Well, I started typing this 2 days ago, and then I lost it all due to a crash, so I will make it short and sweet. This week we are going to talk a bit about Escherreal, but also one of my side projects.
For those who haven't seen it...
So, I think I've spammed this enough, but I figured I'd share it for those who aren't sooper cool guys. This is Escherreal. Our game concept can be found on Steam Greenlight. That trailer was the combination of work from 11 developers over the course 6 weeks. Our game was greenlit by our faculty and other industry professionals. We picked up 3 more developers since then. But this post isn't really going to be focused on Escherreal, instead, it will be about one of my side projects...
The purpose of this game is to roll your little cube guy around, pick up the colored tiles, and bring them to the same colored receptacle. The red tile has already been placed, and the green one is about to be. The goal is to get to the orange tile (sorry Cosmic). This game is made in a free game engine / editor called Unity. Initially this game was just being worked on by me, but every week there is a cut down round. This is called The Gauntlet.
LOLWTFISTHIS?
Thing about this game is, that because I was working on it myself, I had to program it as well. You are looking at the code that makes the cube rotate along the edge that you want. The next major thing I want to get working is have a rectangular prism made out of 2 cubes that will rotate as well. This is mega hard to do (for me), and is an interesting challenge. I have survived several rounds of The Gauntlet so far and picked up a level builder in the process. There are 6 levels in total right now, but there are still a few weeks left. By the end of the semester, we will (assuming it doesn't get cut), have several levels, and this game will be posted online (hopefully to somewhere like Kongregate or on the iOS / Android app stores). This should, in theory, be my first game that I will actually get paid to make, but we'll see. Until next time...
Overview: Crysis 3, like all the Crysis games, follows the super solider Prophet. In the past Prophet has gone through some real serious stuff and with Crysis 3, things don't change. It starts off with Prophet getting rescued by an old friend from a C.E.L.L. prison designed just for people in nano suits. You go through the story making new friends, going through rough challenges, and using a cool new weapon the Hunter's Bow. And and at the end you learn the real secret behind C.E.L.L.'s energy power. The campaign itself goes by pretty quick with small details getting skipped over in the story. Some of the characters feel like they are bi-polar and don't get to know them well enough throughout the campaign. The campaign overall was pretty good with it still hitting all the major parts but it skips out on some of the smaller fine details of story content. The multiplayer is fun and can get pretty fast paced. The newest multiplayer mode "Hunter" is like like being the Predator if your the hunter and if your the prey, well you better pray you can survive the 2 minute round as a C.E.L.L. operative. Overall the multiplayer is fun but it's better if played with friends. Now to get to the scores!
I recommend everyone who has kept up with the Crysis storyline to play this game. But, I don't believe this a real buy game. It's more of the game you rent to play the story and a little multiplayer then return it back to the store. The Crysis 3 multiplayer is cool and fun but it lacks in the community to really be able to stick to it. Hope you guys enjoyed the review and it helps out anyone who was contemplating on getting the game.
